Welcome To Weekly News Wordpress Theme

Weekly News is a professional responsive Wordpress template suitable for newspaper publishers, magazine or advanced blogs.

Installation

Uploading Weekly News Theme via FTP

  1. Download the zipped theme pack to your local computer from themeforest and extract the ZIP file contents to a folder on your local computer.
  2. In the extracted folder you will find 'weeklynews.zip' file you need to extract.
  3. Usa a FTP client to access your host web server (e.g. Filezilla).
  4. Upload Theme files in the extracted folder called 'weeklynews' to wp-content/themes/.
  5. Visit Administration > Appearance > Themes and click the Activate link to make the this theme current.

Installing Weekly News Theme From the WordPress Dashboard

  1. Download the zipped theme to your local computer from themeforest and extract the ZIP file contents to a folder on your local computer.
  2. Log into your WordPress admin panel and go to > Appearance > Themes.
  3. Now click on the "Add New" button.
  4. Click on the "Upload Theme" button, "Browse" for file called weeklynews.zip and select "Open".
  5. Click the "Install Now" button.
  6. Activate the theme from this page, or "Return to Themes Page" and activate from there
  7. FIRST THING TO DO AFTER THEME ACTIVATION -- Go to Theme Options to save your initial settings!

Updating Wordpress Theme

This theme will be updated periodically in order to fix bugs and add new features. When a new update is available an update message will appears on your blog dashboard and then you can download the most current version from your ThemeForest account.

Auto update

  1. Download the plugin zip file to your computer.
  2. In your WordPress admin area, go to Plugins > Add New then click Upload.
  3. Click Choose File, select the plugin zip file you downloaded and click Install Now.
  4. After installation, click Activate.
  5. Click the new Envato Toolkit link in the menu and follow the instructions to configure the plugin.

Manual Update

  1. Download the most current version from ThemeForest in the "Downloads" area of your account.
  2. Unzip the package and locate Weeklynews.zip in the theme folder.
  3. Go to Appearance > Themes and activate another theme such as the default WordPress theme.
  4. Delete the Weekly News theme which is now inactive.
  5. Go to Install Themes > Upload then install and activate Weeklynews.zip from the new package.

Import Demo Content

Warning!

Importing Demo Content will add posts and media files to your wordpress. It's not recommended to do this if you already have your own content. Please, back up your data before importing this demo content.

This is the easiest way to setup your theme with dummy content so you can play with it and see how some things are done.
This demo will import few pages, posts, categories and one menu. Images will be downloaded from our server and they are for demo use only.

When you click on button "Import Demo Data", please be patient. It can take a couple of minutes for whole import..

Import Demo Content


  1. Navigate to Theme Options > Import Demo Content.
  2. Click the Import Demo Content button.

Migrating From Another Theme

If you migrate from a theme which used the native featured images functionality of WordPress. Please use the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin to resize all the thumbnails. Click the link above and download the free plugin, and read through the steps it contains, it has all the information you need.

Theme Navigations

This Theme uses wordpress built-in menus feature which can be found in your wordpress dashboard > appearance > menus. To setup a new menu, please follow the steps below. It's best to already have your pages created, even if they are blank pages.

Theme Navigations


  1. Navigate to Apperance > Menus page
  2. Click the "create a new menu" link to make a new menu. Enter the name then click Create Menu
  3. To add a menu item, you can easily select one of your already made Pages, Categories or even enter a custom name and custom link from Links box. Add to Menu
  4. You can manage your menus using the drag and drop functionality. To create a dropdown menu, simply drag a menu item below and slightly to the right of another menu item and it will lock into place and create a dropdown section.

    If this is menus first level you'll have option for "Dropdown Type" where you can select Default Menu dropdown or Category Mega Menu.

  5. If this is second level menu and you selected Category Mega Menu as dropdown type, you'll have an option for Articles Display:

    • Default Articles (leave this option if your menu item is a category) - with options:
      • Filter by tag slug
      • Offset
    • Custom Articles - with options:
      • Category Filter
      • Filter by tag slug
      • Offset
    • Reviews Articles Only - with options:
      • Category Filter
      • Filter by tag slug
      • Offset
  6. After setting up your menu, select the menu you just created as the Top Menu, Header Menu, Footer Menu or all three of them.

    Footer Menu will display only first navigation, no children as dropdown.

  7. Once its all done, make sure you click the Save Menu button.
  8. You can chnage menus locations in any time from Manage Locations tab.

How to add icons in navigation?

This theme is built on Boostrap framework and you can use their Glyphicons.
You can check all icons here: http://getbootstrap.com/components/

Header Settings

Header settings enables you to choose your favourite layout and type of navigations (one or two menus).

  1. Navigate to Theme Options > Header Settings.
  2. Select Header Layout that suits your needs.
  3. Do you want Full Screen or Boxed header.
  4. Upload Desktop Logo (If you like padding around logo like in demo, use max height of 50px).
  5. Upload Mobile Logo for mobile users (max height of 40px).
  6. If you selected default header layout, here you can specify information for weather widget.
  7. Once its all done, make sure you click the Save Changes button.

  1. Navigate to Theme Options > Header Settings > Navigation.
  2. Do you want to enable or disable Sticky Menu? If enabled, you can also place a logo on sticky menu and hide first navigation item from menu (this is ussually homepage).
  3. Do you want to display login/register links. If yes, they will appear on the right side of navigation menu.
  4. Do you want to display search dropdown form. If yes, it will appear on the right side of navigation menu.
  5. Do you want to display Sub Navigation. This should be used only when you have main category filled only with categories.
  6. I you don't like Sub Navigation, maybe you want to display additional Quicklinks menu. This cannot be used when Sub navigation is active.
  7. Once its all done, make sure you click the Save Changes button.

Social Networking

  1. Navigate to Theme Options > Header Settings > Social Networking.
  2. Do you want to display social icons in top navigation (if enabled)? This will show links you selected (4).
  3. Do you want to display "+follow" menu item in main navigation. This will show links you selected (4).
  4. Enter proper URLs for services you have.
  5. Once its all done, make sure you click the Save Changes button.

Footer Settings

Footer settings enables you to expand your theme with extra widgets and informations.

  1. Navigate to Theme Options > Footer Settings.
  2. Do you want to enable or disable footer widgets?
  3. If footer widgets are enabled you can select desired footer layout and...
  4. Choose desired sidebars for each section.
  5. Do you want to enable or disable copyright section?
  6. If copyright section is enabled yu can assign custom text descriptions.
  7. Once its all done, make sure you click the Save Changes button.

  1. Navigate to Theme Options > Categories.
  2. Choose your default settings for all categories on your site. Here you can:
    • Choose Category Layout
    • Choose Sidebar Positions
    • Choose Sidebars (according to sidebars positions)
    • Define posts per page that override Wordpress global options.
    • Choose Pagination Template
  3. If you would like to display some categories (or every category) differently, just choose category from drop menu and select values that would override default category settings.
  4. Once its all done, make sure you click the Save Changes button.

Define category colors

If you want to assign specific color to each category, then navigate to Posts > Categories.

When you add or just edit categories, you will see new option Category Primary Color. Just select color you want and the theme does all the work.

When you are writing/editing your post, this theme gives you a powerful options to customize all your needs.

  1. Navigate to Theme Options > Posts Settings.
  2. Select main layout for posts.
  3. Select main sidebar position for posts..
  4. Select Sidebars (according to sidebars positions).
  5. Do you want to Show Category on post images?
  6. Do you want to Show category on featured image?
  7. Do you want to Enable Breadcrumbs for posts.
  8. Do you want to Enable Post Meta after Title?
  9. Do you want to Enable Author Information below the post?
  10. Do you want to Enable Prev/Next Posts below the post?
  11. Select what to share from our selection.
  12. Once its all done, make sure you click the Save Changes button.

Global Related Posts Settings

This theme gives you three options for displaying related posts. First is standard related posts section after the post, second can be placed inside the content (left or right) and third is by a our "Related Posts" widget.

  1. Navigate to Theme Options > Posts Settings > Related Posts Settings.
  2. Select how to display Related Posts section after post content. Here you can:
    • Display posts filtered by current post category or by current posts tags
    • Change Title for this section (default: "Related Posts")
    • Set post offset (number of post to displace or pass over)
    • Set how to sort these posts
  3. Select how to display Related Box section in content. Here you can:
    • Set up to three different sections and customize it (each section separately) as you like by selecting:
      • Section Title
      • Section Format (layout for display)
      • Filter type (by current post category or by current posts tags)
      • Number of posts to show
      • Post offset (number of post to displace or pass over)
      • Sort order
    • Place this box on left or right side in post content
  4. Once its all done, make sure you click the Save Changes button.

  1. Navigate to Theme Options > Posts Settings > Review Posts Settings.
  2. Select Review box position. If you are using custom position then please use [review] shortcode to place the review box in any place within post content.
  3. Select Review Style. Do you want to display reviews as percentages or points?
  4. Select how to display Review summary type.
  5. Select Number of criterias.
  6. Enter name of each criteria. This values are predefined and it will be used on all reviews. However, they can be overwritten when editing the post, scroll down to Posts Options > Review Post Settings.
  7. Define colors for "Block Review". This is new custom block for Visual Composer.
  8. Once its all done, make sure you click the Save Changes button.

  1. When editing the post, scroll down to Posts Options > Posts Settings.
  2. Here you can override all global post options for current post only.
  3. Once its all done, make sure you click the Publish button.

  1. When editing the post, scroll down to Posts Options > Audio Post Settings.
  2. Paste an embed link and it will be embeded in the post instead of featured image.
  3. Enter Audio Title (visible only in audio widget).
  4. Enter Audio Author (visible only in audio widget).
  5. Once its all done, make sure you click the Publish button.

  1. When editing the post, scroll down to Posts Options > Video Post Settings.
  2. Paste a link from Youtube, Vimeo or Dailymotion and it will be embeded in the post instead of featured image. This has higher prioriry than embed code.
  3. Paste a embed code and it will be embeded in the post instead of featured image.
  4. Once its all done, make sure you click the Publish button.

  1. Navigate to Theme Options > Page Settings.
  2. Choose preferred Page Layout.
  3. Choose preferred Sidebar position.
  4. Choose Sidebars (according to sidebars positions).
  5. Do you want to enable Breadcrumbs on pages?
  6. Once its all done, make sure you click the Save Changes button.

Page Overrides

  1. When editing the page, scroll down to Page Options > Page Settings.
  2. Here you can override all global pages options for current page only.
  3. Once its all done, make sure you click the Publish button.

Top Slider

This is available only on Pages.

  1. When editing the page, scroll down to Page Options > Top Slider.
  2. Decide if you want to show Top Slider.
  3. Do you want do disable Top Slider on mobile devices?
  4. How do you want to display your Posts? By Category or by Latest Posts.
  5. Select desired Slider Layout.
  6. Do you want extra padding to top or bottom .
  7. Do you want background for page slider.
  8. Do you want Top Slider to scroll automatically?
  9. Do you want to display short summary bellow title?
  10. Select how to sort your posts.
  11. Select how many slides to display.
  12. Select categories to show in slider.
  13. Filter by tag slug.
  14. Select how to display category labels.
  15. Once its all done, make sure you click the Publish button.

Sidebar Manager

The Sidebar Manager enables you to create a unique sidebar for specific posts, pages, archives and categories.

  1. Navigate to Theme Options > Sidebars.
  2. Here you can add or remove sidebars as you need it.
  3. Once its all done, make sure you click the Save Changes button.

When this is done sidebars you created will be seen in the widget area. This sidebars will also be available for posts layouts, page layouts and more...

Typography

  1. Navigate to Ads System > Typography.
  2. There are great set of typography options for you to choose. Create your unique theme.
  3. Once its all done, make sure you click the Save Changes button.

Ads System

Our Ads System allows you to manage advertisements on your site.

First, you need to create your ads.

  1. Navigate to Ads System > Add New or Ads System > Edit.
  2. Enter name for your advertisement.
  3. Choose Ad Display to separate standard ad sizes from wallpaper ads.
  4. Choose Ad Type.
  5. If you selected Image Ad Type, you have options to upload your banner and set URL. If you selected Code Ad Type, just enter your code in offered textarea field..
  6. Once its all done, make sure you click the Publish button.

Now, you place your ads all over your site.

  1. Navigate to Theme Options > Ads System and select section you want to edit (homepage, pages or categories).
  2. Every section has this options where you can select advertisements for Top Banner and Wallpaper Ad.
  3. Banner in Layout is available only for Categories and it's used to divide layout (previosly selected) with an ad.
  4. If you would like to display ads on some categories (or every category) differently, just choose category from drop menu and select values that would override default category settings.
  5. Once its all done, make sure you click the Save Changes button.

Post & Page overrides

Sometimes, there is a need to override previous settings on certain posts or pages.

  1. When editing the post, scroll down to Posts Options > Ads System.
  2. Select advertisements for Top Banner and Wallpaper Ad.
  3. Once its all done, make sure you click the Publish button.

Advanced Settings

Do you need to stylize this theme even more, place some custom javascript functions or just copy your Google Analytics Code? Well, this is it.

  2. Place here your Google Analytics Code.
  3. Enter here your Custom CSS Code.
  4. Enter here your Custom JS Code.
  5. Once its all done, make sure you click the Save Changes button.

Theme Styling

  1. Navigate to Theme Options > Theme Styling.
  2. Select default theme styling for the theme.
  3. If you select light theme, you can specify what section to display in light tone.
  4. Select Image Box Layout.
  5. Do you want to Show Post Meta on Image boxes?
  6. If yes, what information to display in post meta container?
  7. Do you want some hover effect on Image boxes?
  8. Once its all done, make sure you click the Save Changes button.

Coloring the Theme

This theme give you a lot of options to choose your favourite set of colours.

Theme Styling


  1. Navigate to Appearance > Customize.
  2. Select Section Settings you want to edit and click on it. You will see all available option for styling.
  3. Check Theme Preview as you are making changes to the theme.
  4. Once its all done, make sure you click the Save & Publish button.

Visual Composer Settings

This theme comes bundled with "Visual Composer", drag and drop backend only page builder plugin. Therefore, we created custom content boxes you can use in building your pages and posts.

  1. Select Visual Composer Page under Page Attributes > Template.
  2. Select Backend Mode to work with Visual Composer instead of default Wordpress editor.
  3. Add custom Visual Composer Blocks with your own settings.
  4. Under Page Settings select layout with middle and right sidebars.
  5. Enable Top Slider and select how to display it.
  6. Publish or Update your page.
